In mid October slots were cut high in the tower to accommodate the ends of the bell frame's girders. Jill Marshall recorded the tricky operation of hoisting these substantial girders up into the tower where they were assembled and cemented in place. On 6th November finishing touches were being applied to the pointing round the slots - with the same attention to detail that has marked this whole job. Before descending the spiral stairs, I spotted a name scratched in the stone. (Ed.) Next - the bells! |
