| The World Cup Final - 9th July
2006 Football
fans filled the village hall to watch the World Cup Final projected on to
the wall at the back of the stage. The event was a fund-raiser for the new
Tennis Club and marked the finale of the great World Cup Competition
master-minded in the village and followed avidly by entrants from around
the world. Loyalties were divided - with many neutrals - but there was a
strong contingent of French support. A superb meal was served at
half-time. Extra time, a sad sending-off, and penalties preceded the
presentations to the winners (see Clubs - Tennis Club) and a quiet cry
into the beer or muted celebration. A brilliant event demonstrating the
energy of the Tennis Club and also the versatility of the village hall as
a venue. Back
