| St Helen's Church bells hung - 8th January 2007
History was made as the four retuned
bells and the new Volans and Fossey bells were hung in St Helen's church's
recently restored tower in Little Eversden. A steady trickle of
enthusiasts and well-wishers came to see. It was all in a day's work for
Graham Clifton and his colleague James Haseldine of White's of
Appleton.
By Tuesday the six bells were in place and ready for their ropes. The
first test chimes brought in the neighbours.
The hanging of the bells is a dream come true for Barbara Sach who has worked tirelessly for this day. It is not, however, the end of the dream. When the bells have been dedicated and their peals are a regular feature of the village, work will continue to raise money for necessary vestry facilities. Graham and James were assisted practically by a faithful band. Theo Schubert (who came one day to watch) provided specialist professional expertise. Matthew Boyd and Michael Nicholson were on hand to carry out instructions. Jean Boyd provided welcome sustenance. They are hereby chronicled for posterity. The "impossible" has been achieved.
